Slam Dunk Back to School Bash
The Ray Tanner Slam Dunk is an annual event focused on helping school students get ready for the first day of school. The event, presented in conjunction with the Junior League of Columbia, features three Richland County elementary schools and their students. The event addresses the medical and economic needs as those students prepare for the first day of school. Community partners make it possible to provide backpacks with school supplies, vision exams and dental exams. Read a few of the letters from students who took the time to say thank you.
A grant from the Michael J. Mungo Foundation and the generosity of Under Armour provided the Ray Tanner Foundation an opportunity to purchase backpacks for the older students and cinch sacks for the younger students.
Volunteers from Columbia's EdVenture Children's Museum brought many of their learning games for the students to enjoy.
Coach Ray Tanner joins the Slam Dunk volunteers from the Junior League of Columbia to hand out school supplies.
Volunteers from the Sansbury Eye Center gave each student an eye exam and will provide free glasses if needed.
